Camunda 7 to Camunda 8 migration help, one ticket at a time

Assigned to a Camunda 7 to 8 migration and the architecture is new to you? Camunda 8 is not a drop-in upgrade — the engine is remote, the code model is different, and expressions change. An engineer who has worked through these migrations joins you over screen-share and works through each step with you.

What we cover

What Camunda 7 → 8 migration covers

Code model changes

Moving JavaDelegates and external task handlers to Zeebe job workers, and rethinking logic that relied on the engine running inside your application’s transaction.

  • JavaDelegate → job worker
  • External tasks
  • Spring Zeebe
  • Transactions

Models and expressions

Adjusting BPMN and DMN models for Camunda 8, converting JUEL expressions to FEEL, and handling elements that behave differently.

  • BPMN
  • DMN
  • JUEL → FEEL
  • Modeler

Operations

From Cockpit to Operate, from embedded engine to a Zeebe cluster, and what changes for incidents, retries and monitoring.

  • Cockpit → Operate

Running both side by side

Strategies teams use while old instances finish on Camunda 7 and new ones start on Camunda 8, and how to test both paths.

Sound familiar?

Where developers usually get stuck

  • A delegate relied on the engine sharing your database transaction, and that no longer holds.
  • JUEL expressions fail after conversion and the FEEL equivalent isn’t obvious.
  • You need to keep in-flight Camunda 7 instances running while new work starts on Camunda 8.
  • Operate shows incidents that never appeared in Cockpit.

How we work

Ground rules that protect you and your job

You stay at the keyboard

You share your screen and do the work; we guide, explain and review. You own your commits — that’s how the skills stick.

Your employer’s systems stay protected

We never ask for passwords or repository access. Please check your employer’s policies allow screen-sharing before you book. We don’t take on export-controlled (ITAR/EAR), classified or health-records work.

Confidential by default

We sign an NDA on request and never share who our clients are or where they work.

One engineer, one context

You won’t have to re-explain your project each time. Your engineer keeps notes on your codebase and goals.

How it works

From first call to confident on your own

  1. Free scoping call

30 minutes on your role, stack, team rhythm and where you feel shaky. Share your requirement and we match you with an engineer who knows your stack.

  2. Schedule around your stand-up

Sessions land in your local working hours — Americas, Europe, Middle East or Asia-Pacific — with a slot before stand-up if you want one.

  3. Work through your tickets together

You share your screen and drive. We explain the code, debug with you, and review your changes before you open the PR.

  4. Taper off as you grow

Most engineers move from daily to weekly sessions within a couple of months. The goal is that you no longer need us.

FAQ

Camunda 7 → 8 migration: common questions

Can’t find your answer? Email contact@jobsupport4u.com.

Is Camunda 8 a simple upgrade from Camunda 7?

No. Camunda 8 runs a remote Zeebe engine instead of an embedded one, replaces JavaDelegates with job workers, and uses FEEL instead of JUEL for expressions. Most migrations involve code, model and operational changes.

Will you do the migration for my team?

No. We support you, the developer assigned to the migration. Over screen-share, your engineer explains each step, debugs with you and reviews your changes.

Can you help if we’re only partway through the migration?

Yes. Many clients join mid-migration with both engines running. Your engineer starts from wherever your team is.
